PRIMA GIORNATA DEDICATA ALLA DIFFICOLTÀ: LE INTENSE QUALIFICHE LEAD U17 INTERROTTE TEMPORANEAMENTE DALLA PIOGGIA
Carolina Gradaschi conquista il pass per la semifinale. Lunedì 20 luglio torneranno in parete i migliori 24 atleti e le migliori 24 atlete
La prima giornata di gara dei World Climbing Youth Championships 2026 di Arco è stata interamente dedicata alle qualifiche Lead della categoria Under 17, temporaneamente interrotte per circa un’ora a causa di un forte acquazzone.
Sulle storiche pareti del Rock Master, all’interno del Climbing Stadium – Centro Tecnico Federale FASI, i giovani atleti hanno affrontato tracciati di alto livello tecnico, caratterizzati da proposte intense, selettive e particolarmente interessanti da parte del team di tracciatura.
Nel comparto maschile è stato il giapponese Kazuki Nakata a conquistare la testa della classifica, unico atleta capace di raggiungere il top su entrambe le vie di qualificazione. Alle sue spalle si sono piazzati i connazionali Taketo Saiki e Haku Ishida, completando una tripletta tutta giapponese.
Per la squadra italiana, Sam Da Pozzo e Riccardo Rizzoli hanno concluso la gara rispettivamente in 34ª e 35ª posizione, mentre Andrea Locatelli ha terminato la propria prova al 42° posto.
Anche la classifica femminile è stata guidata da un’atleta giapponese: Arisa Hayashi ha conquistato la prima posizione, precedendo le due rappresentanti cinesi Yijing Lu e Meini Li.
Buone notizie per la Nazionale italiana grazie alla Campionessa Italiana Giovanile Lead Carolina Gradaschi, che ha conquistato il pass per la semifinale chiudendo le qualifiche in 22ª posizione. Le altre azzurre in gara, Chiara Franceschi e Giorgia Zanetti, hanno terminato rispettivamente al 42° e al 56° posto.
I migliori 24 specialisti e le migliori 24 specialiste della difficoltà torneranno sulle pareti del Climbing Stadium per disputare la semifinale lunedì 20 luglio alle ore 9.00.
Il tecnico della Nazionale Lead Luca Bana ha commentato così la prestazione degli azzurri:
«I nostri atleti hanno dato il massimo e Carolina ha centrato la semifinale. Le vie erano sicuramente complesse e, per alcuni ragazzi, si trattava della prima esperienza in una competizione di questo livello, quindi anche l’emozione ha giocato la sua parte. È stata comunque una bella gara, molto combattuta, con tanti atleti forti e un livello competitivo davvero elevato. C’è ancora da lavorare duramente, ma ci sono buoni margini di crescita».
Dopo le emozioni della prima giornata, domani gli appassionati di corda e imbrago potranno assistere a un nuovo intenso appuntamento con le qualifiche Lead della categoria Under 19.

OPENING DAY DEVOTED TO LEAD: INTENSE U17 QUALIFIERS TEMPORARILY HALTED BY RAIN

The opening day of competition at the World Climbing Youth Championships 2026 in Arco was entirely devoted to the Under 17 Lead qualifiers, which were temporarily suspended for approximately one hour due to a heavy rain shower.
On the historic Rock Master walls at the Climbing Stadium – FASI Federal Technical Centre, the young athletes faced technically demanding routes featuring intense, selective and highly interesting challenges set by the route-setting team.
In the men’s competition, Japan’s Kazuki Nakata moved to the top of the standings as the only athlete to achieve two tops across the qualifying routes. His teammates Taketo Saiki and Haku Ishida finished behind him, completing an all-Japanese top three.
For the Italian team, Sam Da Pozzo and Riccardo Rizzoli finished in 34th and 35th place respectively, while Andrea Locatelli concluded his competition in 42nd position.
A Japanese athlete also led the women’s standings, with Arisa Hayashi taking first place ahead of China’s Yijing Lu and Meini Li.
There was good news for the Italian team as Italian Youth Lead Champion Carolina Gradaschi secured her place in the semi-finals, finishing the qualification round in 22nd position. The other Italian athletes, Chiara Franceschi and Giorgia Zanetti, placed 42nd and 56th respectively.
The top 24 male and 24 female Lead specialists will return to the walls of the Climbing Stadium for the semi-finals on Monday, 20 July, at 9:00 a.m.
Italian Lead National Team coach Luca Bana commented on the athletes’ performances:
“Our athletes gave everything they had, and Carolina secured a place in the semi-finals. The routes were certainly complex and, for some of the athletes, this was their first experience in a competition of this level, so emotion also played its part. It was a great and closely contested competition, featuring many strong climbers and an extremely high standard. There is still a lot of hard work ahead of us, but there is also plenty of room for improvement.”
Following the excitement of the opening day, fans of ropes and harnesses can look forward to another intense day of action tomorrow, with the Under 19 Lead qualifiers taking centre stage.
